Student Accommodations
Some students will have learning accommodations for timed assessments, which you can easily set up in Courseware. These accommodations will apply to every timed Graded Quiz that you assign so that you only have to set it up once.
- Select your course and choose “Manage Roster” from the menu on the left.
- Find the student to whom you would like to give accommodations. They are organized alphabetically by last name.
- In the “Timed Quiz Accommodations” column, select an option from the dropdown menu.
- “None” is the default and will not give the student a different time limit from the ones that are set in your Graded Quiz Assignments.
- “Untimed” will eliminate the time limit for the student.
- “1.5” will give the student 1.5 times the amount of time set in assignments. They will get 15 minutes for a 10-minute quiz, 30 minutes for a 20-minute quiz, etc.
- “2” will give the student twice the amount of time set in assignments. They will get 20 minutes for a 10-minute quiz, 30 minutes for a 15-minute quiz, etc.
- “Other” gives you the option to put in some other multiplier.
- After you have modified the student’s accommodation, select the “Save” button.
FAQs
How long can a timed quiz last?
- The maximum time allowed for a Graded Quiz Assignment is 3 hours. The minimum time allowed is 1 minute.
Can a student still have multiple attempts on a timed quiz?
- Yes! When a timed quiz has multiple attempts, an attempt is counted for the student when they start the quiz. If a student leaves or closes the quiz after they start without answering any questions, their grade will be submitted as a zero. If they answer some questions, they will be graded on the questions that they answer.
Can I change a quiz's time limit after it is published?
- Yes, you can, but for any students taking the quiz while you make this change, they may lose their scores and attempts for the quiz. This also applies to changing a student's accommodations while they are taking a quiz. We recommend that you change accommodations just once at the beginning of the course and make sure that the time limit is final before you publish your Graded Quiz Assignment.
What if there are multiple quizzes in the same assignment?
- If you have multiple quizzes in the same Graded Quiz Assignment, all of the quizzes will have the same time limit. If you wish for some of them to be untimed—or for them to have varied times—you should place the quizzes in separate assignments.
What happens if my student doesn’t finish the quiz?
- If a student runs out of time before the quiz is finished, the student will be notified that time is up and their grade as it stands will be submitted to the Gradebook automatically. If the Partial Credit setting for this assignment is "No" they will receive a zero, but will still be able to see which questions they got correct in the Gradebook.
- If a student closes the quiz window, loses internet, or some other error occurs after they have started the quiz, they will receive a grade for any questions that they completed before this error occurred. This assignment will submit that partial grade to the Gradebook.
- If a student is actively taking the quiz, the assignment will be listed as "In progress" in the Gradebook.
