How features of Canvas integration work
Single sign-on
Use this basic integration, and students do not have to remember their Courseware login and password. The first time they log in to Courseware from a Canvas course, they’ll be asked for their Courseware username and password. Thereafter, Courseware will remember the student and launch from within the Canvas course without requiring a username and password. This feature is available for students when an instructor or administrator links any Canvas course to any Courseware course.
Assignment and gradebook integration
These additional features are available to instructors and students when an instructor or administrator selects the deep integration option when linking a Canvas course to a Courseware course. This feature is available on any assignment’s page in Courseware and from the Bulk Editing menu on the Courseware Assignments page.

Add Courseware non-graded assignments and graded quizzes to a list of assignments in a Canvas course
This deep integration feature offers instructors the ability to display assignments, quizzes, and folders in a Canvas course that match how they appear in a Courseware course. Instructors choose which Courseware assignments and quizzes to add to a Canvas course. Synced an assignment by mistake? This feature also allows for removing assignments. -
Courseware assignments appear in Canvas for students
This deep integration feature displays to students Courseware assignments within the list of assignments in a Canvas course. Any Courseware assignment a student selects from inside the Canvas course will launch that assignment in Courseware. Any assignment published in Courseware by an instructor will appear in the Canvas course on the assignments page. -
Automatic sync of updates to any Courseware assignment displayed in Canvas
This deep integration feature syncs any updates instructors make to a Courseware assignment with the corresponding assignment students see on the Canvas assignments page. Any edits an instructor makes to these assignment features will automatically sync: assignment name, description, release date, due date, grading settings, and publication status. Courseware triggers a sync to Canvas whenever a linked assignment is edited. The last sync date and time are displayed in the Courseware gradebook. Instructors also have the option on the Courseware gradebook page to manually sync.
-
Track student activity for non-graded Courseware assignments
This deep integration feature gives instructors basic insight into student assignment interaction by displaying which non-graded Courseware assignments a student has opened. In the Canvas gradebook, each non-graded Courseware assignment appears with an incomplete status. When a student opens a linked Courseware assignment, that assignment will change to display a complete status.
-
Report student performance on graded Courseware quizzes
This deep integration feature syncs the Courseware gradebook with the Canvas gradebook. As students complete graded Courseware quizzes linked to the Canvas course, their scores are sent to the Canvas gradebook. If a Courseware quiz allows for multiple attempts, the score in Canvas will be updated to reflect the grading strategy selected in Courseware (last, best, average). The system triggers a sync when a student score for a linked quiz posts to the Courseware gradebook. The last sync date and time are displayed in the Courseware gradebook. Instructors also have the option on the Courseware gradebook page to manually sync.
